Tap Tempo

Overview

Tap along and the tempo shows from the second tap. It takes the median of your last eight intervals, so one late tap doesn't throw the number off. Taps that were left out are shown struck through, so you can see what was counted. Because it only looks at recent taps, it keeps up when the tempo changes.

Taps that were well off the beat are struck through and not counted.

Frequently asked

How many taps do I need?

Two give you a reading, and about six make it steady. It only uses your last eight intervals, so it follows you if the tempo changes.

Why is one of my taps struck through?

It was more than about a third away from the median interval, so it was left out. It stays visible so you can see what was counted.

Does it work on a keyboard?

Yes. The pad is a real button, so Space and Enter both tap it, and you can reach it with Tab.

Can I find the tempo without tapping?

Yes, if you have the file. The BPM detector analyses the audio and draws the beat grid on the waveform.
