Is my music uploaded anywhere?
No. The songs are read and played by your browser on your device. Nothing about them is sent to a server. When you pair your phone as a remote, the song’s title, cover and position go to your phone, encrypted end to end.
Which formats can it play?
Everything your browser plays itself (MP3, AAC and M4A, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, WAV and, in Safari, ALAC), plus formats it converts for playback first: WMA, APE, WavPack, AC-3, ALAC in other browsers and more.
Can I add a whole folder?
Yes. Drop the folder on the page or use Add a folder. Sub-folders are included, and a folder's cover.jpg or folder.jpg is used as the album art when a song has none of its own.
Can it play internet radio and links?
Yes. Add a link to a song on a server, an internet radio stream, an HLS stream (.m3u8) or a playlist on the web, or paste a list of hundreds, one per line. Stations that publish what they play (most Icecast stations) show the song on air. A link plays from that site, straight to your browser; if the site doesn't allow other pages to read its sound, it still plays, just without the equaliser and visuals.
Can I open playlists from another player?
Yes: M3U and M3U8, PLS, XSPF and ASX, and cue sheets. Drop the playlist together with its music (or after it) and each entry is matched to your songs by its path, its file name or its title, even when the playlist was written on another computer. Web addresses in a playlist become links.
Can I write notes on a song?
Yes. Open a song's details and write a note; tie it to the current moment and it shows as a mark on the seek bar, and clicking its time plays from there. Notes, ratings and likes can be exported as Markdown or CSV for a review.
Does it keep playing with the screen off?
Yes. The lock screen and the notification show the song with play, pause, previous and next, and so do headphone buttons and your keyboard's media keys.
Can I keep the player in view while I work?
Yes, in Chrome and Edge. The pop-out button opens a small player window that stays on top of your other apps, with the song, the progress and the controls. Installed as an app, the player can also open music files straight from your file manager.
Can I use my phone as a remote?
Yes. Press Connect a device on the device that plays and scan the code with your phone (or open the link on another computer), then press Join there. The phone shows the song, its cover and what is up next, and its buttons play, pause, skip, seek, change the volume and like on the other device. Both screens show the same six-digit safety code; if they differ, stop. The connection is encrypted end to end and direct where the networks allow it; our server only helps the two devices find each other. Keep the remote’s page open: a phone that locks or switches app drops the connection.
Why is there a short gap between songs?
The next song is loaded ahead and started a moment before the current one ends, which closes most of the gap. Truly gapless playback, sample for sample, is not possible with the browser's own audio player.
What does volume levelling do?
Songs mastered at different loudness are brought to about the same level, using the ReplayGain or R128 values in their tags. Songs without them are measured while the song before them plays, and levelled from then on.
Does it have an equaliser?
Yes, with ten bands and presets such as More bass, Vocals, Small speakers and Late night, or your own setting. It lowers the volume before the boosted bands by just enough that the music does not distort. Open Sound for the equaliser, the crossfade, the sleep timer and, in Chrome and Edge, the output device.
Will my library still be here tomorrow?
Your likes, ratings, plays, notes and playlists are kept in this browser, tied to the song itself: add the same file again tomorrow, under any name, and they are back. To have songs play without adding them again, link your music folder (Chrome and Edge) or choose Keep for the songs you want, which stores a copy in this browser.
