Frequently asked

What is kept, and what is lost?

The message itself is kept: sender, recipients, subject, date, the HTML and plain-text body, attachments, inline images and attached messages, and the internet headers when Outlook stored them. What only Outlook understands is dropped: categories, follow-up flags, reminders, voting buttons and other Outlook properties. Embedded OLE objects can't be converted and are left out, and the download menu says so.

Why convert .msg to .eml?

.msg is Outlook's own format; .eml is the internet standard. Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Gmail importers, archiving systems and most tools read .eml.

Is it private?

Yes. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Does a signed message stay signed?

Yes, for S/MIME: Outlook keeps the original signed message inside the .msg, and the converter writes that out unchanged, so the signature still verifies.
