Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Capturing, encoding and saving all happen in your browser. Recordings and screenshots are written to the browser's private storage on your device and stay there until you delete them or clear the site's data.
Can I switch to another window while it records?
Yes. The recording runs in a background thread that the browser does not slow down when this tab is hidden, so you can present, demo or browse in another window. Stop from Chrome's Stop sharing bar or come back here.
How do I record the sound my computer is playing?
Keep System or tab audio on and, in the browser's share dialog, turn on "Also share system audio" (Windows and ChromeOS, and on a Mac with Chrome 141 or newer on macOS 14.2 or newer) or "Also share tab audio" when you share a tab. Firefox and Safari share a screen without its sound; your microphone still records there.
Does the camera bubble work in every browser?
It works in Chrome and Edge on a computer, and in Safari versions that let a background thread read the camera. Elsewhere the video records without it: drawing the camera into a recording would need this tab to stay in front.
What format are the videos?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound wherever the browser has those encoders, which plays everywhere. Chrome on Linux has no AAC encoder, so the sound is Opus there, and a browser without H.264 records VP9; those files play in browsers and VLC, but not in QuickTime or iMovie. Firefox records WebM.
What happens if the browser crashes while I record?
The video is written in one-second pieces, each saved as soon as it is made. The next time you open the recorder, a recording that was cut off is trimmed to its last complete piece and appears as Recovered.
Is trimming lossless?
Fast trim copies the video without re-encoding it, at any length. Players start exactly at your start point; a few editors show up to a second before it. Exact re-encodes the picture so the cut is frame-exact everywhere, and takes about as long as the trimmed part.
Is a redacted area really gone?
Yes, from every file you save or copy: the box is drawn from a shrunken copy of those pixels, so the detail is not in the exported image. The original screenshot stays unchanged in your browser, so you can still adjust the redaction later.
How long can a recording be?
As long as there is room in the browser's storage, usually a large share of your free disk. The recorder shows the time left at your settings: 1080p at 30 fps at High quality takes up to about 3 GB an hour.
Can I record on a phone?
Phones and tablets do not let a web page record their screen. You can still take a screenshot with your phone's own buttons, paste or open it here, and use every editing tool.
