Photobooth

Overview

A photo booth that runs in your browser with nothing to install. Look at yourself through twenty live looks and ten distortions, combine them, and see nine at once in a live grid. Add a frame, stickers and text, set the shape and zoom, and shoot with a countdown and a screen flash. Make classic 4-up photo strips and short GIF loops. Every photo keeps the camera's own picture beside it, so you can change the effect afterwards. Everything stays on your device.

How it works

Start the camera

Press Start camera and allow it in your browser. Nothing is recorded until you press the shutter, and the camera turns off when you leave the tab.

Pick an effect

Open Effects to see nine of them live at once, or step through them with the [ and ] keys. Tap the picture to move a distortion's centre, and add a frame, stickers or text.

Shoot and download

Press the shutter or Space. After the countdown the screen flashes and the photo is saved in your browser. Open it to download, copy, or change its effect.

Frequently asked

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The camera, the effects and the saving all happen in your browser. Photos are written to the browser's private storage on your device and stay there until you delete them or clear the site's data.

Why does the screen flash?

Like the photo booth on a Mac, the screen turns white for a moment to light your face, which helps in a dark room. Turn Flash off with the lightning button or in Capture.

Are photos saved mirrored?

The preview is a mirror, as people expect when they look at themselves, and by default the photo is saved as you saw it. Turn off "Save as previewed" to save what the camera sees, so text you hold up reads the right way round. Stickers and text stay readable either way.

Can I change the effect after taking a photo?

Yes. Next to each photo the booth keeps the camera's own picture, before effects. Open the photo and choose Edit to pick another look, distortion, frame or stickers. You can turn "Keep originals" off in Capture to save space.

What resolution are the photos?

The camera's own, up to 4K with Best. A square or portrait shape crops the camera's picture, and zoom magnifies it without making the file smaller.

Why are some effects missing?

Looks and distortions run on your graphics card through WebGL 2. Where a browser or device has no WebGL 2, the booth still takes photos and offers exposure, contrast and saturation, and says so.

Do stickers look the same everywhere?

Stickers are emoji, drawn with your device's emoji font, so they look like the emoji on your phone or computer. A photo keeps what it showed when you took it.
