Overview

Open an Outlook .msg file without Outlook. The viewer reads Outlook's own format in your browser, including messages Outlook stored only as Rich Text, attached messages and inline images, and shows the internet headers when Outlook kept them. Nothing is uploaded.

What is a .msg file?

The format Outlook uses to save a single message, appointment or contact. It is a container of Outlook properties, not text, which is why most programs other than Outlook cannot open it.

Why are some addresses missing?

Inside a company, Outlook sometimes stores an internal Exchange address instead of an email address. When the file has no email address for a person, the viewer says so instead of guessing.

Where are the internet headers?

Outlook keeps them only for messages it received. They show under Headers, and Info shows the route through mail servers. Messages from Sent Items or Drafts have none.

Is my email private?

Yes. The file is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Images that would load from the internet stay blocked until you choose to load them.
